Fall 2012 Seattle Family Athletic Events

As the summer starts to come to an end, the days get shorter, the breeze gets a bit cooler and school ramps back up.  That doesn’t mean that it’s time to throw in the towel and stop exercising as a family.  Absolutely not.  I have found some of my favorite local Seattle events where the whole family can participate.  The events are listed below in order of date.  Enjoy!

PAWSwalk – Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Marymoor Park
3.1 mile walk
Free admission.  $25 donation is requested.

*Come out and support PAWS, a fabulous organization that helps injured, orphaned and homeless animals get a second chance with a forever home.  Enjoy the day in Marymoor Park with family and furry friends.  You do not need to be a pet owner to join.  Demonstrations, agility contests, kids area and many other fun activities will be going on over the course of the day.

Cottage Lake Tri & Tri Again – Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Cottage Lake
Tri & Tri Again Distance Triathlon
400 yard swim + 9 mile bike + 1.6 mile run

Kids Triathlon
25 yard swim + .65 mile bike + 240 yard run

*Sponsored by Swedish Medical Center, this race is uniquely geared to create a positive, healthy environment for all to take pride in themselves and embrace the spirit of well being.  An absolutely beautiful lake surrounded by lush greenery.  The course is a great beginners race and one the whole family can enjoy.  The race includes a friends and family wave start so you can race your mom, brother, sister, uncle, cousin or kid!  What fun!

Athleta Iron Girl Seattle Women’s 10 & 5K – Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Green Lake

$100 per mother and daughter team

5K Race
3.1 mile run
$30 per Individual
$60 per mother and daughter team

*This is an all women’s race (sorry men).  The Athleta Iron Girl’s mission is to empower women towards a healthy lifestyle.  For those who are familiar with the Green Lake loop, you can dominate this race by showing off how fast you can run!  The race offers a mother and daughter team category, the fastest team wins a prize.  Individual prizes are also offered.

The Fremont Street Scramble – Sunday, September 23rd at Solstice Plaza (Fremont)
$20 ages 21 and older
$10 ages 13-20
$5 ages 6-12
free ages 5 and younger
$40 family team with at least one child younger than 12
$5 additional for on-site registration

*Kick off Oktoberfest festivities with Pyramid Brewery’s Fremont Scramble.  Individuals or teams will be given 30 locations, each with a point value throughout the Fremont area. The quest is to visit as many as you can, on foot, in 90 minutes. Competitive or casual.

The Naked Foot 5K – Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Woodland Park Zoo
3.1 mile run
$35 Individual
Kids under 12 are free

*Shoes are optional.  Do bring a pair of running shoes to donate and challenge yourself to run the entire race barefoot.  If you didn’t know, barefoot running is the rage!  The activities don’t stop at the race, there is foot painting, live music, games and much more.  A wonderful family event that will having you leaving with happy feet.

TriFREAKS Kirkland Triathlon – Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Juanita Beach Park
Sprint Distance Triathlon
1/2 mile swim + 13.9 mile bike + 3.11 mile run
$75 Individual

Kids Triathlon
50 yd swim/splash + 1/2 mile bike + 400 yard run
Ages – 3 to 12 years of age
$30 Individual

*Beautiful Kirkland, WA hosts a fun family day at Juanita Beach Park.  Your whole family can participate in the triathlon and splash, spin and sprint together.  Water temperatures are in the high 60s and low 70s, which makes for a warm swim!  The event supports the HopeLink Organization.

SnoHoBrewFest Bicycle Cruiser – Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Snohomish BrewFest
10 or 20 mile bike ride along the Centennial Trial
$25 per rider for ride only or $50 per rider for ride and entrance + 5 tastings to the Snohomish BrewFest

*Prior to tasting several different local brews, get your workout in for the day with the family and join the SnoHoBrewFest Bicycle Cruiser.  Break out the Burley and the cup holder!  Choose to participate in either the 10 or 20 mile ride, ending at the BrewFest where you can get your taste buds wet.  Kids are welcome to ride and join for the day!
