Family Friendly Mixed Drinks: Beer Margaritas & Strawberry Limeade

As the 4th of July holiday quickly approaches, it is time to start break out the pork ribs, hamburgers and hot dogs and fire up those grills, it is time for a family BBQ!  One of the things that I look for when planning my BBQs is ways to use the same ingredients in multiple ways.  That makes my shopping list short and prep time even shorter.  When you have kids, anything to make planning a little bit easier is a life saver.

When it comes to summer, I always look forward to delicious homemade margaritas.  One of my favorite recipes is beer margaritas.  I know is sounds strange, but trust me, they are simply delicious.  Using the same ingredients (minus the alcohol), you can make strawberry limeade for all of the kids.  Here is how to make both drinks at the same time.

Directions:

  • Get out two large pitchers (one for the beer margaritas and one for the strawberry limeade)
  • In a blender, blend strawberries with 1 can of limeade + 1 cup of water
  • Pour strawberry and limeade mix into 1 of the pitchers + 2 cups of water + ice cubes
  • Stir in pitcher
  • Pour limeade, tequila, 12 oz. water and beer into the 2nd pitcher
  • Stir until well-blended, and limeade has melted
  • Add ice (adjust with additional water, if needed)

Directions to serve:

  • Sugar the rim of the strawberry limeade glass (I like mason jars), pour mixture over ice, insert a straw and add a lime slice to rim as garnish
  • Salt the rim of margarita glass,  pour mixture over ice and add a lime wedge to the rim as garnish

Shopping List:

    • 2 (12 ounce) can frozen limeade concentrate
    • 12 fluid ounces tequila
    • 12 fluid ounces water
    • 12 fluid ounces beer (Bud Light or Corona are good choices, stay away from microbrews)
    • ice
    • 1 lime, cut into wedges
    • 1 lime, sliced
    • 1-1/2 cups quartered fresh strawberries
