Barnyard Fun: Kelsey Creek Farm

For a fun, free barnyard experience, I love taking my kids to Kelsey Creek Farm in Bellevue. It’s basically a large park with several bonus clucking, neighing, bleating and oinking residents.

I like the farm because everything about it is so convenient and low key. There are a couple of good-sized parking lots, with easy access to a spacious picnic area, toddler play equipment and the barn area.

If you’ve got a stroller, you don’t need to lug it around for great distances to see everything. There’s a somewhat steep incline from the picnic and play area to the barn, but other than that, access to the key attractions is mostly flat.

It’s easy to get close to the animals, which include goats, pigs and horses. There’s also a large pen of chickens, different kinds of ducks and geese, and a row of rabbits reclining in covered cages. Once your little ones get their fill of the barnyard, there’s a sandbox and a small garden to explore.

Kelsey Creek Farm also has lots of special events and programs throughout the year, including day camp, special demonstrations (care to see some sheep shearing?) and farmer classes for kids 2 to 6. They even host birthday parties where guests can interact with animals and make farm crafts. Imagine having a pig attend your birthday!
