I'm a freelance writer and proud mom of two. I've lived in Seattle my whole life and I still find new places to explore all the time. This is a great place to live!

Free Story Time at Mockingbird Books

For an easy morning activity, check out Mockingbird Books, located in the Greenlake neighborhood. The independent children’s bookseller hosts a free story time at 11 AM, every day but Sunday. It’s an energetic half hour of stories and songs, hosted by an engaging store employee. Sometimes guest authors will also attend and read from their own books.

After story time, you can enjoy coffee and a snack from the in-store Finch Café. There are also a few toys, a train table and lots of space to hang out in the front of the store. Another, quieter room with soft chairs and a couch is in the back of the store. The shelves of carefully curated books are irresistible. I appreciate that there is not only a good selection of titles, but also a wide range of prices.

This is a pleasant, low-key place to spend some time. The staff is clearly dedicated to their community and keeping bookstores alive. They welcome you as if you are a guest in their home, and any home with an espresso machine and bunny crackers is high on my list.
